Ramon Pagayon Santos

Ramon Pagayon Santos, born on January 25, 1941, in the Philippines, is a distinguished composer, conductor, and musicologist known primarily for his contributions to contemporary classical music. He is a significant figure in the development of Philippine art music, blending traditional Filipino elements with Western classical techniques. Santos studied at the University of the Philippines and later earned a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Music from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His notable works include orchestral compositions such as “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra,” “Siklab,” and various choral pieces that reflect Filipino cultural themes. Beyond composition, Santos has had a profound impact on music education in the Philippines, serving as a professor and mentor to many students.
